A dream about the destroyed neighborhood, with bonus animals

The first thing I remember was looking out the window. I was at the apartment complex in which I was living. There was someone with me while I was looking down the window but I don’t remember who that was.

There was a parking lot to the west of the building, the south side had a playground and a pool. There is a road adjacent to the parking lot and then other buildings that have nothing to do with the complex.

In the dream everywhere around the building was under water. But it wasn’t only that the water level had risen, the landscape was completely ruined. The building I was in was fine, but something had happened outside. And whatever it was, it felt surprising to see when I was looking out. So it wasn’t something that I hear or knew was coming.

Normally there was a parking lot to the west of the building, a road adjacent to that and then other buildings across the street. And to the south, there was a swimming pool and a playground. But in the dream neither of these things were really recognizable; except for the building right next to the one I was in. That one seemed fine.

One part I didn’t mention until now was that, in the ruined garden and around the streets, there were many big animals. Some of these were prehistoric, such as dinosaurs and some were animals that you do not see on the streets: tigers, lions and alike.

I remember paying a lot of attention to a herbivorous dinosaur that was partially stuck in earth, screaming, probably because he wanted to release itself.

I remember seeing people who were out for some reason, but not many. The first group I noticed was a guy with a bleeding face and I think 2 other people who were trying to take him to safety. They climbed the half-story high stairs in front of the building next to mine and they were trying to open the building’s gate.

While that was happening, a lion noticed them and pounced on the already bleeding guy. The other two people, whom I think were the wife and the daughter, tried to get him inside the gate which was opened maybe a second late.

The lion was on the guy while the other two people dragged him in but the lion followed them in. I couldn’t see any more of what was happening. I changed my location inside the house to the balcony that maybe had a better view of the gate but I couldn’t see anything anymore. The lion didn’t come out and I wasn’t able to hear anything except for the general noise of the destroyed street with the animals screaming and the chaos. Which in retrospect was a much more silent and peaceful than what I would have imagined such a situation to sound, except for the probably gore on the streets, of which I only saw a snippet.

Once I realized that I cannot see anything else from the gate, I noticed that there was a 8–9 year old kid that was sitting in the balcony. I don’t remember what he was doing. But I remember that he wasn’t scared. It didn’t even seem like he was aware of what was going on. He said something to me but I cannot remember what it was. But I remember that the conversation was in English. I told him something about him contacting his parents but the exchange didn’t take long. Then I walked in and I started thinking about whether it was a good thing that I talked to that kid, whether it was my place to talk to him.

I don’t remember anything else about the dream from that point onwards. But I do remember when I woke up and noticed that I had a dream, that I had some trouble classifying what I dreamt of as a nightmare or just a dream with a very gruesome nature. I wasn’t in danger of any sort. I wasn’t scared for myself in any way. I was tense about what was going on but I was a spectator to the destruction that has already happened, which I didn’t even notice until I looked outside the window and was essentially shown. It was the person next to me that I cannot remember who told me what has happened. And the violence I saw mostly happened outside of my view.

It was certainly an interesting dream, with a lot of subtext.
